Four Pilots named to CPL All Star Game

The Coastal Plain League announced today the final roster for the 2010 National CPL All-Star Team. The Coastal Plain League’s 12th annual All-Star Game will be played at McNair Field in Forest City, N.C. on Tuesday, July 20th.  The 2010 American CPL All-Star Team was named on July 13.

Shortstop Logan Robbins (Western Kentucky) was named to the American CPL All-Star Team earlier this week.  The 6-0, 185 pound sophomore from Owensboro, KY has a .354 batting average with 15 runs, 23 hits, and 9 RBI this year for the Pilots.  The 2010 season with the Pilots is his second, but is his first All-Star selection.

Joining Robbins in the All-Star game, just on the opposing side, are Chas Crane, Coby Cowgill, and David Coleman.

Crane  has held down the hot corner for the Pilots in both 2009 and the 2010 seasons.  His .354 batting average ties Robbins for the highest on the team this year, but more impressive is his league-leading seven homeruns.  The 6-0 200 pound sophomore out of Winthrop University has 26 runs, 46 hits, and 35 RBI so far this year.

VMI's Coby Cowgill was the only Penisula pitcher to be naemd to the 2010 CPL All-Star game.  The 6-1 185 pound freshman from Norfolk, VA holds a 3-0 record this year for the Pilots with a 1.75 ERA.  In 36 innings pitched, the righty has given up seven earned runs on 27 hits while striking out 28.  In six games started and 128 batters faced, Cowgill has held opposing batters to a .211 batting average.

Virginia's David Coleman was the fourth Pilot named to the 2010 CPL All-Star game.  The 5-11, 205 junior from Richmond, VA has helped the Pilots in the outfield but has helped Peninsula offensively producing a .222 batting average.  The left handed batter, has 18 hits and 10 runs scored while driving in 7 RBI so far this year.

The Forest City Owls, in conjunction with the Coastal Plain League, will host the All-Star Game and festivities beginning on Monday, July 19th and running through Tuesday, July 20th. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. on July 20th.

Celebrating its 14th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 800 alumni drafted and 36 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
