Crane to Participate in 2010 CPL Home Run Derby

With the rosters 2010 Coastal Plain League All-Star game already announced earlier this week, the list of the 2010 CPL All-Star Home Run Derby contestants were released Thursday by the league.  Among the 16 contestants taking part in this year's derby, the Pilots will be represented with favorable odds.

The Peninsula Pilots will be represented in the 2010 CPL All-Star Home Run Derby by third baseman Chas Crane (Winthrop).  Crane will also take part in this year's all-star weekend, playing on the National League team with three fellow Pilots.  It was previously announced Crane would be among four Pilots to be selected for this year's all-star game and will be the solo Pilot to take part in the home run contest.  Crane headlines the list, creating a lot of excitement and when you look at his numbers you will understand why.

With a league leading seven home runs already this year, Crane is no stranger to the long ball and arguably is the favorite for this year's contest.  The 6-0, 200 pound switch hitter has a .351 batting average with 47 hits and in 134 at bats Crane has 36 RBI's and 27 runs scored.

The Home Run Derby takes place July 19 at McNair Field, home of the Forest City Owls.  To view the entire list of contestants including this year's format and rules please visit the CPL's website www.coastalplain.com/index.php/cpl_08/press/2010_cpl_all_star_home_run_derby_participants_named/
