The Coastal Plain League announced today that Wilson’s Korey Dunbar was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while Jared Lyons of Peninsula was named the Rawlings Pitcher of the Week for week eight of action (July 15-21).
Dunbar, a freshman from the University of North Carolina, swung a hot bat for Wilson batting .438 over five starts. The power-hitting catcher knocked in seven runs on two home runs, two doubles and three singles. Further he scored six runs of his own and racked up 15 total bases to go with a .938 slugging percentage. In his first year of collegiate summer league baseball, Dunbar is making the most of his playing time, batting .308 in nine games played for the Tobs.
On the mound, Lyons was a stopper for the Pilots as both a starter and a reliever. Combined between both roles the southpaw threw eight shutout innings, allowing only three hits while striking out 11. Further, opposing batters swung a lousy .111 against him. The 6-0, 185-pound sophomore out of Liberty University is now 4-1 with 20 strikeouts and a 1.53 ERA in seven appearances on the season.
