A wild finish with a walk-off single by Kyle Butler led the Peninsula Pilots to defeat the Holly Springs Salamanders 8-7 tonight. With shutout pitching by Eric Mullet through five innings and exhilarating hitting and base running in the bottom of the ninth, the Pilots pulled out their third win in a row.
The Pilots thought they had this game in the bag being up 4-0, but the Salamanders made a come back, leading 7-4 in top of the ninth. It was do or die for the Pilots going into the bottom of the ninth. Matthew Schwarz got out on a bunt, but his teammates had his back. Next at bat was Jonathan Embry who got the rally going for the Pilots with a homerun decreasing their deficit to 7-5. Then, Dominic Toso hit a single followed by a single from Cole Prestegard allowing Toso to steal third. With Bryce Krizan as a pinch runner for Prestegard, Tyler Adams is up and hits a single into center field making it a 7-7 game, he then steals second putting him in scoring position. Tyler Galazin hit a single and Tucker Maxwell was intentionally walked with Kyle Butler up to bat who hits a single into right field to score Tyler Adams from third and win the game in walk-off fashion 8-7.
The Pilots win in impeccable fashion and will be back at War Memorial Stadium tomorrow as they play a double header against the Edenton Steamers. The first pitch of game one is set to be thrown out at 6:05 p.m.
