The Coastal Plain League All-Star Show was held this past weekend in Lexington, South Carolina and the Peninsula Pilots had four players participating in the festivities. Jonathan Embry, Cole Prestegard, Dominic Toso and Tyler Adams represented the Pilots on the American team during the All-Star Show.
The events kicked off on Sunday, July 8 with the fan fest portion of the All-Star Show. Fans had the opportunity to meet the players, get their autographs, and take pictures. That evening was the skills challenge, where players from the American and National teams participated in a series of competitions to get points for their teams. Pilots' runs and hits leader Jonathan Embry was the first up in the bunt challenge, where the goal was to lay down a series of bunts onto targets that were placed near the first and third base lines. The next Pilot to make an appearance that evening was team homerun leader Tyler Adams, who participated in the hitting challenge. Adams was tasked with hitting a number of baseballs off a tee to try and hit four targets that were scattered on the left side of the outfield.
The All-Star game took place the following day on Monday, July 9, where the Pilots had two players starting for the American team. Jonathan Embry was behind the plate and Cole Prestegard started at first base. The Pilots brought their A-game to Lexington, earning all four runs that the American team racked up that night. Jonathan Embry started things off with a two-run homer that sailed over the right field fence. Later, Cole Prestegard ripped a double into the outfield that scored the final two runs for the American side. Half-way through the game Dominic Toso came in as designated hitter and Tyler Adams took over at shortstop.
The American team ended up losing to the National team 9-4, but the Pilots players made their names known at the 2018 All-Star Show. To see these All-Stars play in person, come to War Memorial Stadium on Thursday, July 12 for their next home game at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Fayetteville SwampDogs.
